The first lesson of History of Film & Motion Arts.

The first lesson, and we were told to share what particular special effects movie that we like or hate. I can’t really thought of one at that time and I gave some random movie, which was Die Hard 4. But what’s movie without special effects nowadays. Oh well, I’ll share more of it here then.

Movies that I like with special effects! Say the truth, there’s a lot. Recent one was Avatar. I watch it twice in the movie theater, both in 3D. It was splendid and just wonderful. The environment built was beautiful and so were the characters and each of the creatures. Next was Transformers, Night in the Museum, the recent X-Men Wolverine, Harry Potters and many of the Mandarin war movies.

Not to miss out Animation, there’s the recently UP that was attractive. It’s a movie that open up to all ages and a great movie to enjoy. I know the school’s library had a number of copies at the media station that students and lecturers could borrow.

After the short discussion, we were told about the early devices that olden people use to create animation. The Zootrope was a very familiar device as we could see in some stalls still selling as decoration. I was so bewildered that in the olden days, they actually have to stand and look into a single machine to see a short film. Makes me felt that, how grateful should I be to be able be in my comfortable home and using LAPTOP!

We were given some short film to watch too, and what hit me hard was The Enchanted Drawing by J. Stuart Blackton. It was a black and white silent film but bought some comedy in it. Felt that he was so talented at that time to think of such storyline and plot. I guess that is what it takes to be the first true animator in the world.

Felix the Cat was shown too. It’s delightful to watch the old times cartoons. We were introduced that a dispute was set off between Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer in who should be credited for Felix the Cat.

That’s all for now.
